Purpurides B and C, Two New Sesquiterpene Esters from the Aciduric Fungus Penicillium purpurogenum JS03‐21

Abstract

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Purpurides B and C (<jats:bold>1</jats:bold> and <jats:bold>2</jats:bold>, resp.), two new sesquiterpene alcohol esters generated from a drimane‐type sesquiterpenoid lactone and an amino acid, together with two known analogs, berkedrimane B (<jats:bold>3</jats:bold>) and purpuride (<jats:bold>4</jats:bold>), were isolated from the aciduric fungus <jats:italic>Penicillium purpurogenum</jats:italic> JS03‐21. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, X‐ray single‐crystal diffraction, and application of <jats:italic>Marfey</jats:italic>'s method. Compounds <jats:bold>1</jats:bold>–<jats:bold>4</jats:bold> showed modest antifungal activities against <jats:italic>Candida albicans</jats:italic> with <jats:italic>MIC</jats:italic> values in the range of 1.2–3.3 μ<jats:sc>M</jats:sc>. Compounds <jats:bold>1</jats:bold> and <jats:bold>2</jats:bold> showed moderate antimicrobial activities against <jats:italic>Enterobacter aerogenes</jats:italic> and <jats:italic>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</jats:italic> with <jats:italic>MIC</jats:italic> values in the range of 1.2–2.6 μ<jats:sc>M</jats:sc>.
