Abstract

The stereochemistry of the tryptophan residue of N-malonyltryptophan has been believed to be of D-form. We reinvestigated the stereochemistry by using HPLC with a chiral column. Both forms were detected; however, the L-form was a major component. The ratio of D: L was determined to be 1 : 32 in pea leaves and 1: 3 in wheat roots.
