Abstract

This work describes the study of the chemical constituents of the bark, trunk, leaves, flowers and fruits of Erythrochiton brasiliensis (Rutaceae). The constituents isolated were ~-sitosterol, isophytol, waxes, stachydrine, homostachydrine, free amino acids and N-methylpipecolic acid. The latter does not appear to have previously been reported from plants. The possible role of betaines and waxes in this plant is discussed.
