Abstract

Caledonin (I) is a modified peptide isolaled from the marine tunicate Dldtmnun rodrlgutsl. Caledonin comprises a central L-phenylalanine residue connected via its amino group to (S)-3-amino-S• mercaptopentanoic acid (a new sulfur-containing p-amino acid). and by its carboxyl group to a six membered CYClO~uanidine moiety, bearing an n«tyl chain. Caledonin is a natural bolaphile which strongly binds Zn I and CuI ions.
