Abstract

<jats:p>(+)-Elaeocarpiline and (-)-isoelaeocarpiline, two new alkaloids isolated from the leaves of Elaeocarpus dolichostylis Schltr., have been shown to be respectively (+)-15,16-dihydroelaeocarpine (III) and (-)-15,16-dihydroisoelaeocarpine (IV). The relative configuration has been assigned for all centres in (-)-isoelaeocarpiline, but the relative configuration at C 16 in (+)-elaeocarpiline remains uncertain.
