C-Phycoerythrin, a photosynthetically active red biliprotein from blue-green algae, has a tetrapyrrole chromophore, phycoerythrobilin. Evidence is presented to establish the structure of phycoerythrobilin as biladiene a,b (Figure 1). Phycoerythrobilin is isomeric with phycocyanobilin.
