Abstract

This study covers three research areas: 1) Chloroplast structure: Electronmicrographs show lipoprotein lamellae consist of ~200 Å 'quantasomes'; small-angle X-ray diffraction resolves contradictory lattice spacings (36, 32, 38 Å) using a model of 16-lattice quadratic structure with additional enzyme particles or quantasome dislocation, suggesting attached particles are photosynthesis-related, with further X-ray studies to reveal enzyme arrangement. 2) Amanita muscaria: Insecticidal activity not from muscarine; three active factors (A, B, C) isolated via chromatography/electrophoresis, Factor B structure confirmed as I (R=H), Factor C likely ibotenic acid. 3) Retina isoenzymes: The 'nothing' dehydrogenase phenomenon (activity without substrate) complicates interpretation of lactic acid dehydrogenase isoenzyme patterns from cellulose acetate electrophoresis.
