Paxinorol, a novel modified indole-diterpenoid believed to be derived from paxilline, was detected with the recently-developed TLC-ELISAgram technique as a trace contaminant of a paxilline-containing extract from the fungus Penicillium paxilli Bainier. Paxinorol was isolated by column chromatography, and its structure was determined by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
