Two new alkaloids are described, 1β,2β-epoxy-1a-hydroxymethyl-8a-pyr- rolizidine (IV), from C. trifoliastrum Willd. and 7β-acetoxy-1- methoxymethyl-1,2-dehydro-8a-pyrrolizidine (VI), from C. aridicola Domin. 7-Hydroxy-1-methoxy- methyl-1,2-dehydro-8a-pyrrolizidine (V) is also present in C. trifoliastrum and is shown to be identical with a base reported previously from C. medicaginea Lamk. All three bases are partially synthesized from commonly available amino alcohols. The occurrences of these and previously identified alkaloids in the morphologically distinguishable forms of C. trifoliastrum are discussed.
