A new lupine alkaloid, (-)-0-acetylbaptifoline [3], was isolated from the roots of Thermapsis chinensis together with seven known (-)-anagyrine-type (7R,9R, 11R) alkaloids. The structure of 3 was confirmed by spectroscopic methods and by chemical transformations. We also isolated (+)-lupanine [9] and (-)-sparteine [10] (6R,7S,9S, 11s) from this plant. These results indicate that T. chinensis has the biosynthetic ability to biosynthesize both (7R,9R, 11R) and (7S,9S, 11s) alkaloids.
