Abstract

Due to the broad spectrum of pharmacological action of related species of the genus Aristolochia, we investigated the constituents of the fresh leaves of Aristolochia heterophylla. This investigation resulted in the isolation of three new compounds, madolin-N (1), madolin-O (2) and aristophyll-C (3), together with 42 known compounds. Their structures were determined by spectral methods including high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS), distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT), 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR), infrared spectroscopy (IR), ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV), heteronuclear multiple-bond correlation spectroscopy (HMBC), two-dimensional shift correlation spectroscopy (2D-COSY), and nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy (NOESY).
