Abstract

Five pure alkaloids have been separated from the crude mixture of Ceanothus americanus (Rhamnaceae) bases by means of column and thick-layer chromatography. Their molecular formulas have been established as C30H40O4N4, C29H36O4N4, C26H38O4N4, and C28H44O4N4 (two compounds). One of these may be identical with the previously reported ceanothine. Evidence is presented for the functional groups and other features of the molecules.
