Abstract

Structure elucidation of a new major alkaloid, sanguidimerine, was based on the interpretation of its physical and chemical characteristics and was verified by partial degradation and semisynthesis. The possibility of the natural occurrence of sanguidimerine in Sanguinaria canadensis is also discussed.
