Abstract

The callus initiated from Madagascar periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus, with 1.0 mg/liter naphthaleneacetic acid and 0.1 mg/liter kinetin was brown and tight, and formed many hairy roots. The formation of vinblastine in the callus culture with differentiated roots was confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
