High resolution MS and IH-NMR studies indicate that medelline, a minor alkaloid isolated from the bark of Psgudglpp dra aff. lucid?, is the first known example of a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid with a methylenedioxy bridge joining both halves of the molecule. Medelline is probably biosynthesized y+ intramolecular condensation of the accompanying majar bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid, antioquine.
