Abstract

Comparison of the labelling patterns in (+)-sparteine (8) and (-)-N-methylcytisine (9) derived biosynthetically from (R)-[1-2H]- (6) and (S)-[1-2H]-cadaverine (7) has distinguished between two possible pathways for conversion of a tetracyclic intermediate into N-methylcytisine.
