Volatile flavor components of Malabar-Nightshade (Basella rubra L.) were identified by infrared spectra and chromatography-mass spectrometry. Major components identified from volatile oil were 1-methoxypropane, (Z)-3-hexen-l-ol, 3-methoxyphenyl acetate, acetophenone, 4-vinylguaiacol, isophytol, and phytol. The major headspace components were ethyl acetate, benzene, 3-heptanone, 2-heptene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, and limonene.
