Continuing an investigation of the alkaloids of Colchicum szovitsii Fisch, the strong-base fraction was separated into phenolic (0.03%) and nonphenolic (0.01%) substances. Individual bases with Rf 0.22 and 0.45 were isolated by preparative TLC. The base with Rf 0.22 was identified as a new compound named szovitsidine (C22H29O5N), whose structure was deduced as 2,3,4,6-tetramethoxyhomomorphinandienol based on UV, MS, PMR, and IR spectral data. The previously isolated base with Rf 0.56 was confirmed to be (-)-O-methylandrocymbine (C21H27O5N) by spectral characteristics.
