Abstract
A ceramide monohexoside, acanthacerebroside B1b,2a), was purified from the water‐insoluble lipid fraction of the chloroform/methanol extract of the starfish Asterina pectinifera Müller et Troschel using reversed‐phase HPLC. A new method for identification of components of the ceramide by means of HPLC was developed. The separation and structure elucidation of related, nearly homogeneous cerebrosides which behaved as homogeneous compounds is also described.
