Abstract

Gentioflavine, a new alkaloid from some Gentiana species, is shown to be a dihydropyridine lactonic alkaloid. Its structure (III) has been established on the basis of NMR and IR spectral evidence, oxidative degradation and conversion into the known alkaloid gentianidine (II). © 1968.
