A number of previously unreported 3-indolylmethylammonium salts, compounds which are analogous to the structures postulated for the calabash curare alkaloids, have been prepared. Some of these quaternary salts exhibit marked curariform activity, the most effective, N-(3-indolylmethyl)-N-methyl- 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolinium iodide, causing paralysis in mice in doses of 16 mg./kg. © 1949, American Chemical Society.
