A new isolation procedure has been developed for Geissospermum vellosii bark that leads to the isolation of crystalline geissospermine in 0.3 to 0.4% yield. No evidence could be found for the presence of pereirine or vellosine in the bark; however, five new alkaloids have been isolated. One of these is identical with geissoschizoline, the indolinic acid cleavage product from geissospermine. © 1958, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
