Abstract

Honey produced from stands of Echium plantagineum L. (Paterson's Curse or Salvation Jane) contained pyrrolizidine alkaloids to the extent of 0.27-0.95 ppm. The main alkaloid present was echimidine, with smaller amounts of 7-acetyllcopsamine, 7-acetylintermedine, echiumine, uplandicine, lycopsamine, intermedine, and a new alkaloid which is probably acetylechimidine. © 1981, American Chemical Society.
