Abstract

(Equation presented) Pyridinium alkaloids are widely distributed in marine sponges of different genera. Chemical investigation of the Arctic sponge Haliclona viscosa led to the isolation of a new trimeric 3-alkyl pyridinium alkaloid (viscosamine). Trimers have not been described as natural products yet. The isolation and the structure elucidation of viscosamine are discussed in detail.
