Abstract

The leaves of ATALANTIA CEYLANICA have yielded four compounds including a novel benzaldehyde derivative, 2,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde ( 1), and two acridone alkaloids: 1,5-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-10-methyl-9(10 H)-acridinone ( 2) and 11-hydroxynoracronycine ( 3), 2 is a new alkaloid and constitutes one half of the dimeric alkaloid atalanine, whilst 3 is one half of ataline. In addition, the leaves were found to contain the pyranoflavone carpachromene ( 4).
