Abstract

A new oxindole alkaloid, 16-hydroxy-Nb-demethylalstophylline oxindole (I) has been isolated from the leaves of Alstonia macrophylla. Its structure has been determined by modern spectroscopic studies, particularly by NOE difference, COSY 45 ° and DEPT experiments. Na-Methyl-1,2-dihydrostrictamine (II) has also been isolated from this new source. © 1988.
