Novel water-solutle (7-(acylhydrazono)-formyl camptothecins as potent inhibitors of DNA topoisomerase I

Abstract

Seven water-soluble 7-(acylhydrazono)-formyl camptothecins were synthesized and evaluated for their ability to cause protein-linked DNA breaks and to inhibit topoisomerase I activity. Compared with camptothecin, compound 3 was more potent in these two assays but was less toxic in several cancer cell lines.
