Abstract

Lagunamycin, a new metabolite isolated from the culture nitrate of Streptomyces sp. AA0310, showed inhibitory activity against 5-lipoxygenases and antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. The structure of lagunamycin was elucidated to be 6-diazo-4-[(E)-4,6-dimethyl-2-hepten-2-yl]-3-methyl-2,5,7,8-tetraoxoquinoline by a combination of chemical degradations and NMR studies, and this structural assignment was supported by subsequent chemical degradation studies.
