Abstract

In agreement with the results of Virtanen, fresh plants of Eruca sativa yield an alkylthiocyanate, 4-methylthiobutylthiocyanate from the glucosinolate glucocrucin. The seeds give the expected isothiocyanate. The abnormal product was characterized by conversion to S-methylthiolanium iodide with methyl iodide. Diplotaxis tenuifilia behave similarly.
