Abstract

Seven fatty acid derivatives containing one or two butenolide moieties along with ancepsenolide [1], a known bis-butenolide of marine origin, were isolated from the Caribbean gorgonian Pterogorgia citrina. The structures of the new metabolites were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data and were confirmed upon chemical conversion to either ancepsenolide or to its homolog, homoancepsenolide [4].
