A new bisindole alkaloid, obovatine [1], has been isolated from the leaves of Stemmadenia obovata together with the known compounds, bis[11-hydroxycoronaridin-12-yl] [2], 11-hydroxycoronaridine [5], and voacristine [6]. The structure of 1 was established by spectroscopic analysis and chemical transformations.
