Abstract

Fresh dewaxed leaf of Eriostemon obovalis was extracted exhaustively with petrol (60-80°C). The material precipitating on cooling yielded xanthoxyletin (0.3% fr. leaf wt) from MeOH. Concentration of the filtrate to a small vol. yielded a brown precipitate, from which the Me₂CO soluble fraction yielded bergapten (0.3% fr. leaf wt) from EtOH. The remainder of the Me₂CO soluble fraction was heated with petrol (60-80°C) and the residue yielded limettin (0.1-0.5% fr. leaf wt) from MeOH. All compounds were identified by m.p., IR, TLC, and comparison with authentic materials, with limettin also confirmed by MS.
