Abstract

In the course of our countinuing research into biologically active substances from mushrooms,1~4) we have reported the isolation of new cytotoxic phenols, hericenone A and B, from an edible "mushroom, Hericium erinaceum (Yamabushitake in Japanese), in the previous paper.5) Here are described the isolation and structural determination of a novel fatty acid (1) from the mushroom. This acid exhibited cytotoxicity against HeLa cells and an in-hibitory effect on tea pollen growth.
