Abstract

The press juice of leaves of young plants of Pomegranate contains an alkaloid having a structure similar to that of γ-coniceine (2-n-propyl-Δ1-piperideine), one of the major alkaloids of Hemlock (Conium maculatum L.). This alkaloid which was isolated as the hydrochloride proved to be very unstable and on characterization was shown to have the structure of 2-(2-propenyl)-Δ1-piperideine. © 1967.
