A new xanthone, 2-(3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyl)-l,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyxanthone, was isolated from the heartwood of Calophyllum inophyllum. Other xanthones present were jacareubin, 6-deoxyjacareubin, 2-(3-methylbut-2 enyl)-1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyxanthone and 2-(3-methylbut-2-enyI)-1,3,5-trihydroxyxamhone
