Abstract

A new pregnane ester tetraglycoside designated as oxystine has been isolated from the dried roots of Oxystelma esculentum. Chemical and spectroscopic evidence is consistent with the structure 12-O-cinnamoyl desacylmetaplexigenin-3-O-β-D-cymaropyranosyl (1→4)-O-β-D-thevetopyranosyl (1→4)-O-β-D-cymaropyranosyl (1→4)-O-β-D-digitoxopyranoside.
