Abstract

Five ferulic acid conjugates have been isolated from callus cultures of Beta vulgaris. They were identified by ¹H/¹³C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry as the known 1-O-(E)-feruloyl-β-glucopyranoside and the known, here fully characterized for the first time, β-D-fructofuranosyl-α-(6-O-[E-feruloylglucopyranoside) as well as 6-O-(E) feruloyl-β-glucopyranoside, 1-O-(E)-feruloyl-3-α-glucuronosylglycerol and N-(E)-feruloylaspartic acid. In addition the known betacyanins betanin and feruloylbetanin (lampranthin II) were identified by co-chromatography with reference compounds. Lampranthin II was further identified by spectroscopic methods.
