Abstract

Clitoria fairchildiana Howard (Leguminosae), a plant mainly distributed in Southeast Brazil with ornamental purposes, has so far not been explored phytochemically, in contrast to other species of the genus which have been used in traditional medicine in India and Africa as emenagogues, cathartics, diuretics, and expectorants (I). In continuation of our work on this plant (2), we now report the isolation and characterization of a new rotenoid glucoside, 6-deoxyclitoriacetal 11-O-f3-n-glucopyranoside (1), from its roots.
