Abstract

AIM: To study the chemical constituents of Eclipta prostrata L. METHODS: The chemical constituents were isolated with silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and their structures were elucidated on the basis of the spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were isolated and identified as ethyl 2, 6-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzoate (1), merulinic acid C (2), β-amyrone (3), oleanolic acid (4), ecliptasaponin A (5), wedelolactone (6), demethylwedelolactone (7) and quercetin (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 is a new derivative of benzoic acid; and compounds 2 and 3 are isolated from genus Eclipta for the first time.
