Abstract

<jats:p><jats:bold>Lascivol, the Bitter Component of <jats:italic>Tricholoma lascivum</jats:italic> (Agaricales)</jats:bold><jats:p>The structure of lascivol (<jats:bold>1</jats:bold>), the bitter principle of the toadstool <jats:italic>Tricholoma lascivum</jats:italic>, has been elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic studies including a single crystal X‐ray structure analysis. <jats:bold>1</jats:bold> is degraded to dimethyl L‐glutamate (<jats:bold>6</jats:bold>) and 5‐methoxy‐2,4‐dimethylindole (<jats:bold>5</jats:bold>) by acid methanolysis.
