Abstract

Hyoscyamus pusillus L. (family Solanaceae) is widespread in the flora of Central Asia, growing ubiquitously on wooded hills and in salt marshes. The alkaloids of this plant have not hitherto been investigated. This study examined the alkaloid composition of the epigeal part of H. pusillus collected on the territory of the Tashkent Botanical Garden. Chloroform extraction showed it contained 0.09% of alkaloids. From the benzene-soluble fraction, hyoscine and hyoscyamine were isolated. The mother liquors were chromatographed on a column of alumina: ethereal eluates yielded apohyoscine and hyoscine; chloroform fractions contained apoatropine and hyoscyamine; tropine was obtained from chloroform-methanol fractions. Thus, the alkaloid composition of the epigeal part of H. pusillus has been studied for the first time and five known bases have been isolated.
