Abstract

Geleznowia is a monotypic genus found in Western Australia, with a voucher specimen (Perth 01194801) deposited at the Western Australian Herbarium. Previous work reported the furoquinoline alkaloid skimmianine and dihydrocinnamic acid derivative eriostemoic acid from Geleznowia verrucosa. The present study re-isolated eriostemoic acid and first isolated three pyranocoumarins: dipetalolactone, dipetaline, and braylin. Compounds were identified based on spectral data and, for dipetalolactone and dipetaline, by direct comparison with authentic material. Chemotaxonomic analysis indicates Geleznowia is close to Drummondita, and shares coumarins with comparable oxygenation and prenylation patterns with Eriostemon coccineus (sect. Nigrostipulae) and Philotheca.
