Abstract

Unusual cascade transformation was developed involving microwave assisted electrocyclic cyclization of aci (alkylideneazinic acid) forms of nitrovinylindoles acting as heterotrienes. Subsequent one-pot reduction allowed for efficient access to beta-carbolines, including several natural products, alkaloids norharmane, harmane and eudistomin N.
