Abstract

Two new sesquiterpene pyridine alkaloids, Chinese bittersweet alkaloid A (1) and Chinese bittersweet alkaloid B (2), together with five known compounds 3beta- hydroxyolean-9(11),12-diene, beta-sitosterol, 1beta,2beta,6alpha,15beta-tetraacetoxy-8beta,9alpha- dibenzoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran, angulatin A and angulatin J, were isolated from the root barks of Celastrus angulatus. The structures of 1 and 2 were elucidated as 1beta,6alpha,8beta,9beta-tetraacetoxy-2beta,4alpha-dihydroxy-15beta-isobutanoyloxy-(3,12)-evoninoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran and 1beta,2beta,6alpha,8beta,9beta-pentaacetoxy-4alpha-hydroxy-15beta- isobutanoyloxy- (3,12)- evoninoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran mainly by NMR spectroscopic means.
