Abstract

A new phenolic alkaloid was isolated from opium and named palaudine. It was characterized spectroscopically as 1‐(3′‐hydroxy‐4′‐methoxybenzyl)‐6,7‐dimethoxyisoquinoline and the structure confirmed by synthesis. The other three papaveroline trimethyl ethers were also synthesized and their NMR spectra investigated. Copyright © 1968 Wiley‐Liss, Inc., A Wiley Company
