Abstract

A new purine alkaloid glucoside designated locustoside A has been isolated from the seeds of Gleditsia japonica, which has been used in oriental traditional medicine. The structure was determined as 7-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-isoguanine by interpretation of spectroscopic data and was confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis.
