Abstract

detailed study of the basic components of the seeds of Consolida ambigua (L) (formerly known as Delphinium ajacis) has led to the isolation of seven new diterpenoid alkaloids as well as ten known alkaloids. Of the seven new alkaloids, five, viz. 14-acetvibrowniine (6), ajacusine (17), ajadine (15), ambiguine (5) and dihydroajaconine (2i, are fully characterized: two of them designated as alkaloids F and G are partially characterized. The ten known diterpenoid alkaloids are 14-acetyldelcosine (7), ajacine (4), ajaconine (1), anthranoyl-lycoctonine (10), browniine (11), delcosine (13), delphatine (12), delsoline (9), lycoctonine (3) and methyl-lycaconitine (14). The methods of their isolation and characterization are discussed in detail in this paper. The coexistence of Co- and Coo-diterpenoid alkaloids in this plant is worth noting. © 1980, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
