Abstract

Seventeen bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloids have been isolated from the Indonesian annonaceous plant Popowia pisocarpa and fully characterized by spectral analysis and chemical reactions. Among them, fourteen were not previously known. Seven new alkaloids, 3-7, 9, and 10, belong to the dauricine-type dimers. The seven other novel coclaurine dimers, 11-17, are the first examples where the two moieties are linked exclusively by a tail-to-tail carbon-carbon biphenyl bond without any diaryl ether coupling. © 1986, American Chemical Society.
