Two new alkaloids, 8-hydroxyergine [1} and 8-hydroxyerginine [2], are produced during the post-production phase of submerged cultivation of the strain Claviceps paspali MG-6. Their structures were determined on the basis of uv, ms, and 2D-nmr data. A mechanism of formation of these compounds is proposed. The C-8 configuration of 8-hydroxyergotamine was solved by comparison with nmr spectra of 1 and 2. © 1989, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
