Abstract

Two alkaloids of a new type, azatetracyclo [7.3.0.2.0] tetradecane, have been obtained from the leaves of Zygogynum pauciflorum: bubbialine [1] and bubbialidine [2]. Their structures have been elucidated from spectroscopic data and by X-ray diffraction. These are the first alkaloids to be described from the Winteraceae family. Seven known flavones have been also identified: 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-3ʹ,4ʹ-methylenedioxyflavone and 5,7-dihydro-3ʹ,4ʹ-methylenedioxyflavone are described for the first time from a natural source. © 1990, American Chemical Society.
